YAMUNANAGAR: Even as former Haryana IG M S Ahlawat continued to elude the special investigation team (SIT) ever since a molestation case was registered against him on Tuesday, a plea for his anticipatory bail was filed before the district and sessions judge Yamunanagar on Thursday. Ratcheting up pressure for the ex-cop’s arrest, the victim, Arvinder Kaur, threatened to commit suicide if he wasn’t arrested soon.
Recounting her harassment allegedly at Ahlawat’s behest, she accused the SIT of giving a long rope to the cop to avail legal remedies.
According to sources, Yamunanagar district and sessions judge has fixed June 14 for taking up his anticipatory bail petition. “I have been fighting for justice against sexual harassment by Ahlawat for eight years. During this period, I was put behind bars and had to spend several days at Nari Niketan, Karnal.
After going through this ordeal, police finally acted against Ahlawat. But, if he is not arrested soon or booked for attempt to rape, I would be forced to take any extreme step like suicide,” said Arvinder.
The four-member SIT team headed by DSP headquarters Krishan Kumar Hooda, formed to investigate the matter, was busy collecting documents pertaining to the case.
Terming the investigation as ‘delay tactics’, the victim said: “I am unable to understand why an investigation is required in the case at this stage? I am fighting this case for eight years and several such inquiries have already been held. Now, Ahlawat must be arrested without any delay.”
The case dates back to 2002 when the victim lodged a complaint against the IG. The victim, who had filed a dowry case against her husband and his family, went to the SP’s camp office.
